about

This is a special teaser for our upcoming Winter Warmer set, which drops Saturday, March 13 at 8pm, tix available here: bit.ly/SojoyWinterWarmer

Winter Warmer is a streaming concert series highlighting the great music coming out of Seacoast New Hampshire. We recorded audio/video of this set September 26, 2020. Once it is released March 13, it will be available on the platform for the duration of the series through the end of March, and then perhaps even for some additional undetermined amount of time beyond that.

'L'Autunno al Contrario,' or 'Autumn in Reverse' or 'The Backwards Autumn,' is based on the second movement of Antonio Vivaldi's L'Autunno Concerto. In this case it is the recording of Jonny's arrangement of that piece for the Sojoy Quintet, played backwards. It is remarkable how well this piece works harmonically in reverse - most pieces of music would not make a lot of sense if played backward. Another remarkable thing that comes to light in hearing this in reverse is how much the improvisations of trumpet player Zach Lange sound like himself both backwards and forwards, and even his solo in reverse sounds like ideas he would play forward.

The full set will be played forward, but we hope this amuse-bouche whets the appetite enough to tune in on the 13th (bit.ly/SojoyWinterWarmer). Enjoy
